Anthony Salvin. Maverick 19th
century architect, his work is often brilliant, but
rarely pays too much attention to the rules. Guided as
much by fantasy as by the precepts of Gothic
architecture, most of his work is in the north of
England, and includes several fantastic castles. His one major work in Suffolk is the mock-Rhenish Flixton St Mary, which may or may not have been based upon what was there before. Cautley treated his work with the utmost contempt. |
