Transept. Most typically found in cathedrals, transepts are the arms that extend north and south from a crossing point in a cruciform church, of which Suffolk has few. There are fine ones at Earl Stonham and Beccles Minster. The south transept at Hunston is as big as the nave, creating a most unusual effect in this tiny village church.
